This should be the moment we’ve been waiting for — California with its legacy of inspiring state-level climate action leadership is poised to accelerate progress, now that we have a new federal administration advocating bold approaches to heal and protect the environment. Sounds great, right?

So, how’s it going up in Sacramento, in the thick of the 2021 legislative session? We invite you to join us for a firsthand perspective from our state Assemblymember, Rebecca Bauer-Kahan. As a newer legislator, she is already showing leadership on environmental issues and received a 100% rating from Sierra Club on their 2020 Legislative Report Card.

Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan was elected in 2018 to serve the 16th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Dublin, Lafayette, Livermore, Orinda, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, Danville, Alamo and Moraga.

Rebecca is an accomplished attorney, environmental advocate, community volunteer, law professor and mother. A Bay Area native, she has dedicated her career and personal time to improving our community, solving complex problems, protecting civil rights and fighting to ensure everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

She’ll share background on the climate action bills she has authored this session: what’s still in play, what’s not, and why. We’ll also hear her thoughts on the prospects for other key environmental legislation, obstacles to progress, and how grassroots groups like ours can be most effective in helping overcome them.

We’ll follow the Assemblymember’s discussion with a deeper dive on select 350 Bay Area Action priority bills.
