Fossil Fuel Resistance

Did you know that Contra Costa County is the largest refining center on the West Coast?  With five oil refineries and multiple tank farms and export terminals, there’s a lot to keep our eyes on. Air and water pollution, explosions and fires, methane flaring, oil tankers in the bay, and oil drilling in Brentwood all impose a heavy burden on climate and community health. We join with frontline communities and other environmental organizations in our advocacy for public health and safety and to protect the bay.

Join the fight for climate justice in our own backyard.

Our Leader in Fossil Fuel Resistance is Sunflower Alliance

350 Bay Area’s Fossil Fuel Resistance program is part of the Sunflower Alliance. Since its emergence from the 2013 organizing effort (including 350 Bay Area members) that delivered a 4,000-strong march on Chevron in Richmond, the Sunflower Alliance has fought against the toxic poisoning of Bay Area communities and the destruction of our planet by the fossil fuel industry. SFA seeks an end to our ruinous extractive economy and its replacement with a life-sustaining system that nurtures communities and the earth.
